S*** the President Says – 5/18/2020

Ladies and gentlemen, behold, some s*** the president said during the previous week:

Obamagate? This is just a meme hitting Obama for saying a bad thing about Trump, which he did, but it’s not like he personally ordered intelligence agencies to wiretap him. That would be bad.

What, that mean thing Obama said? Why is it all caps?

What activities? What was Obama telling the FBI to hide from Trump that should never have been hidden? His tax returns? What is Obamagate?

Maybe we’ll never know. Anyway, shouting all caps into the internet and watching Fox News is exactly how I pictured a Donald Trump evening going.

Ok, here’s our first clue. Think back to 2016, when Russia attacked our election and the only person who didn’t care also just happened to be the president-elect that benefitted from it. That was strange. Obama sanctioned Russia for the interference and expected Russia to retaliate – but Russia didn’t. That was really strange. Turns out, someone was on the phone with Russia the day after the sanctions were levied asking them not to retaliate because as soon as Trump was sworn in, those sanctions would be reversed. That was a promise from Trump to quite literally excuse the attack on America. A free pass. With Trump/Russia connections already under investigation, and Trump publicly denying any Russian contacts whatsoever, of course America had an interest in finding out who made that promise to Russia! When the public found out that promise was made by incoming national security adviser Michael Flynn, Trump fired him (but not before asking the FBI Director to “let Flynn go”). “Obamagate,” then, seems to be the effort to find out who promised to forgive Russia in 2016. Whew.

Obama did know everything, didn’t he. He knew how to save the auto industry, kill Osama bin Laden, add 20 million people onto the health insurance rolls, create 11 million jobs despite inheriting an economy that lost 818,000 the month he was sworn in, shrink the deficit, and violent crime even dropped to its lowest rate in 45 years during his term. I’d like to hear him testify to Congress or even just address the nation’s senior class. I wonder if he could be president again, or maybe we could give his Vice President a try?

Ah! Where!

“They weren’t after General Flynn. They wanted him to lie about me. Make up a story. And with few exceptions, nobody did that…This was all Obama. This was all Biden. These people were corrupt. The whole thing was corrupt. And we caught them. We caught them.”

It is legitimately scary to think that the President of the United States has now vowed to lock up his 2016 election opponent, his 2020 election opponent, and his predecessor, all based on smoke and mirrors. He reportedly did follow up with AG Sessions asking him to investigate Hillary Clinton several times. This is the American system of government blinking red. We’re being warned.

Ah! Another one. Gets me every time.

“Obamagate! It’s been going on for a long time. It’s been going on since before I even got elected and it’s a disgrace that it happened. And if you look at what’s gone on, and if you look at now all of this information that’s being released. And from I understand, that’s only the beginning. Some terrible things happened and it should never be allowed to happen in our country again. And you’ll be seeing what’s going on over the coming weeks.”

Translation: the president hasn’t the foggiest idea what Obamagate is supposed to be. He’s still workshopping it. He’s got a catchy name, and he’ll fill in the blanks when he gets around to it. It’s a metaphor for the entire Trump era.
